Tips for better dog training

how to train your dogs command and tricks

So, you have brought your new puppy home. Congratulations! Want to start its training? Great! The best to time do this is NOW!

But where to start from?

Disregarded of whether you decide to train your dog yourself, hire a professional trainer or either take classes, these basic TIPS listed below will always be handy for you. Watch out!

Dog Training Tip 1 – Plan Ahead:

Collect all the material and things you would need during the training of your new dog. This may include high quality treats (bacon, cheese, chicken), buckle, long nylon leash (at least 6 feet long), wire tethers, a bed and a clicker – if you choose to use it.

Dog Training Tip 2 – Choose Dog Name Wisely:

Won’t you like to name your new pup or dog? Of course you would love it, dog love that too. Choose a short name that ends with a strong consonant.

Names like Chopper Jasper, Bantar, jack perk up dog’s ears – especially when you put stress on the last latter.

If you bought an adult dog, he may come with an old name. If the name goes with mentioned above technique, well and good! If not, changing is always an option as dogs are extremely adaptable. If you use his name consistently, he would soon start responding to his new name.

Dog Training Tip 3 – Enlist Training Tasks:

Affective way of dog teaching is not about teaching your dog what not to do; it’s about teaching what to do instead.

For example, your dog begins jumping on a neighbor. You call him “NO” to stop him from doing so. The dogs don’t generalize things, so, he might begin on jumping on his right instead of left side. Or he might also jump higher.

Smart way to avoid this situation is to give your dog a direct command. In this case, in spite of commanding a ‘NO,” use straight “SIT” command.

Or, if he begins to chew your shoes; teach him to chew the appropriate toys and ignore the shoe.

Take some time out to discuss with your family and make a wish list of desired behaviors) and dislikes undesired behaviors.

Learn these behavioral training from HERE or any book or DVD on how to shape the behaviors of your dog, step by step.

With trainings techniques given in the mentioned articles, you can proactively teach your dog what to do rather than reactively mending his behavior, which may weaken the bon between you and the pet.

Dog Training Tip 4– Be Consistent: Never, remember! Never reward, praise or pet your dog for a wrong deed.

For Example: If you want your dog to stop jumping, never, not even occasionally pet him while he jumps on you. Encourage him and pet him while he takes your command and sits or lies down.

Dog Training Tip 5: Teach Him on Dog Time:

Your puppy or dog should get a treat, reward and praise each time it behaves well. Teach him that good deeds bring good results.

Also,

If your dog does good, reward him right away, if you casually delays his treat say for 30 seconds, the dog would have no idea why he is getting the reward for?

Similarly, if he does something bad, try the techniques you learnt from above mentioned articles to mend his ways straight away, so to make an association between the behavior and the correction
